Behold: The Chicken Bunker

Built a sod-roofed, earth-sheltered chicken coop in the hope that it will be visually unobtrusive, warm in winter and cool in summer.

Nice chicken bunker...and if things get really bad it can be used as a actual bunker!

I don't have any building plans. I just sort of dug a hole, built a log cabin in it, and buried it.

Here is an intresting site: http://www.homegrownevolution.com/ with his version of Raccoon proofing a chicken coop, although yours looks raccoon proof now.

Very cool to see the final project. I was following it on Bushcraftusa and well you know the rest. Sorry to hear about all that. You contributed alot of great material on the site. I'm glad I can still follow your exploits here. Take care.

Have you considered snakes looking for eggs as a danger to your chickens? This is one of the reasons coups are built on stilts. For the snake ( or rodent) to enter they must crawl up the poles in plain sight of the chickens.

We've lost chickens to dogs, foxes, mink and owls. So far no snakes. They're probably a bigger problem further south.
